their conferences. JMU said "no thank you" to both because they prefer to be in a "northern conference" because of where the majority of their out-of-state students come from. In response the Sun Belt added Coastal Carolina so it could have 10 football members and 12 full members (AR-Little Rock and UT-Arlington currently don't sponsor football). C-USA added WKU so it could get back to an even number (14 in this case) and still be able to hold a CCG. I don't think JMU's position will ever change until the source for its out-of-state students changes; which probably will be never.

As far as Liberty goes, I don't think any FBS conference will approach them about joining their conference until it changes its ultimate goal. When the moratorium was lifted and UMass joined the MAC as a football-only member, Liberty publicly stated it envisioned itself as the "Notre Dame of the East" or "BYU of the East" for the Baptist Church. Translation: "We want to be a FBS Independent with our own TV deal/network so we can promote the school and our faith." In other words once Liberty joins a FBS conference, then it will turn around and announce that it is leaving the conference to become an Independent. No FBS conference wants that type of member to join their conference, so they won't even consider opening Pandora's Box.
